The Specialness of Rainbows

What makes rainbows so special? Is it their beauty? That they come after rain? The biblical promise? 

In Pablo Neruda's posthumously published work, The Book of Questions, he asks:

"Where does the rainbow end, in your soul or on the horizon?"

What an intriguing, thought-provoking question!
